Just Lovies.

This morning was spent doing stuff that takes time but sees few results. Such as checking for home contents insurance quotes and checking on times and costs of rail trips from various place and with all the permutations that may shave a couple of quid of the trip, and writing a couple of emails. We also discussed moorings etc over a cup of tea and then lo and behold it was time for lunch!

Afterwards I thought I had better do something that would show more positive and immediate results. The paint work round our semi trad. area is dull and pitted with little bits of rust in odd spots. My plan is to repaint all the areas inboard of the side. There fore I picked the worst spot for rust (and the easiest area to access) and set about descaling the hatch lid and stop. I used an old chisel on the worst bit then every cloth on the rest. I tried to sand down any areas to a smooth edge and it doesn't look too bad. I had used some anti rust paint in the engine bilge so I have painted that over everything by hand. It is almost black when it dries but doesn't look too bad. I will do a little at a time until there is a large enough area to paint properly with a roller for the top coat. I must say it doesn't look as though there is an undercoat on at the moment which may reveal why it is pitting now.

We had stayed an extra day in Aylesbury so we could go to the opening night of a play at the Aylesbury Waterside Theatre. It was 'April in Paris' by John Godber. We really pushed the boat out and had a steak and a drink at the Weatherspoons over the road from the theatre. I hadn't had a steak in ages and really enjoyed it.

Aylesbury Waterside theatre was opened in 2010 by Cilla Black and cost £47 million. It was 'officially' opened in 2011 by Princess Alexandra.

John Godber is a Yorkshireman who was the artistic director of Hull Truck from 1984 until a few years ago. He has written for television but is best known for his many plays. In 1993 he was found to be the third most performed playwrite in the UK after Shakespeare and Alan Ayckbourn. We have seen several of his plays in Hull and always found them good fun. There are really only to actors in the piece and tonight they were Joe McGann, who is well known for The Upper Hand and Night and Day, and Shobna Gulati who was in Dinner Ladies and Coronation Street. It was very good with comedy and pathos in good measure, and even made you think a bit too.

In the space in front of the theatre is a sculpture of Ronnie Barker who died in 2005. The piece is by Martin Jennings and was commisioned as part of the Waterside development as Ronnie Barker started his acting career in Aylesbury in 1948 where he started as the assistant to the assistant stage manager on £2-50 a week! The statue was unveiled in 2010 by his wife Joy and with David Jason and Ronnie Corbett there to. He is depicted as his character in 'Porridge'.

I can't see what he is looking at.
